Chamber Orchestra Ogden will present its third and final concert of the 2020-2021 season on March 27, 2021, at Peery’s Egyptian Theater. The concert begins at 7:30, and is about 1 hour long. This marks the end of a very unusual and strange concert season for the orchestra, with socially distanced and masked musicians performing our concerts.
As we did for the January 23 concert, we will split this concert into three sections, allowing most of the orchestra’s musicians to perform. The orchestra woodwinds plus four horns will open the concert with Richard Strauss’ Serenade for 13 Winds, Opus 7. This beautiful and difficult composition will be followed by a short break to air out the stage. Next up we will feature the brass and percussion sections with three short pieces. The brass alone will perform Aaron Copland’s Ceremonial Fanfare, and then the percussion section will join them for Anatole Liadow’s Fanfares, for Brass and Percussion. Next up you will get to hear our three percussionists performing Home by Sundown, a composition by Ralph Hicks for three players on one marimba. After one more short pause the strings of the orchestra will take the stage. They will begin with Johann Pachelbel’s well-known Canon and Gigue in D, which will be followed by the first and last movements of Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade in E, Opus 22, for Strings.
Get your tickets early for this one-hour concert since the seating is limited to allow for social distancing. Masks will be required, and patrons will not be able to leave their seats during the breaks unless there is an emergency.
