Attending Live Concerts Increases Life Expectancy

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

A recent study conducted by O2 and Patrick Fagan, associate lecturer on Behavioral Science at Goldsmith University, “claims that attending live concerts can help increase life expectancy and improve overall well-being.”

Here’s the specs:

  1. Attending a live performance each fortnight (every two weeks) can increase life expectancy by nearly a decade

  2. Live concerts increase wellbeing by 21%(after only 20 minutes!), compared to yoga at 10% or dog walking at 7%.

  3. The physiologic result [of attending a concert] is a decrease in heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate,” says Dr. Nirav N. Mehta

  4. Additional health benefits include stress relief, pain relief, a sense of connection, an opportunity to check what you are feeling (similar to therapy), and exercise (unless you are lucky and get the closest parking spot).

So if you find yourself wondering if it’d be worthwhile to attend the next Chamber Orchestra Concert, your answer is a resounding “yes!”
