ALAN WATTS

Alan Watts was born in Texas and started playing the violin at age seven. At about age 6 or 7, he tagged along with his father, Mark Watts, and Fire on the Mountain, the band with which his father performed. This is where he learned to love how performance can help inspire people. He also started competing in fiddle competitions at the same age. He has competed and judged in Utah Old Time Fiddlers contests.

He began teaching private violin lessons while in high school and then went on to attend Weber State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Instrumental Conducting.

Matt’s day job is as the orchestra instructor at Roy High School, Roy Jr. High, and Sand Ridge Jr. High.  He enjoys playing with Chamber Orchestra Ogden, as well as composing and directing music

He is married and has four children.  Mark O’Connor and his father, Mark Watts, are still his violin/fiddle heroes, and he strives to play like them. Someday he would like to do an in-depth study of Stephane Grapelli's jazz violin work.
